We hold the family and friends in our deepest prayers, over the loss of our loved one Sandy Kukan. We are not alone in our grief, and as we mingle our tears with God's tears, and hold close to one another, we invite you to pray deeply for Sandy's beautiful family.With heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Sandy Kukan, 54, a beloved wife, mother, nanny, sister and friend, who departed this world Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at her home.Born on August 2, 1972, in Uniontown, PA, Sandy’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy of family and friends.Sandy was the cherished daughter of the late Charles D. Thomas and Delores Franks, whose spirit undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms. She was also predeceased by her brother, Charles Thomas and sister, Beverly Hurlbut as well as her “Paw-in-law” Bob Kukan, whose memories she held dear.She is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce Kukan with whom she shared fifteen years, nine of which were wonderful years of marriage. Sandy was the heart of her family, and her spirit lives on through her children; Staphany Price, Bo Price, Presslee Kitis (Shane Turner), and Sarah Mayse. Her legacy extends to her precious grandchildren; Jace Lowman, Madilynn Etling, and Elizabeth Thomas who brought her endless love, joy and pride.Sandy leaves behind her brothers; Boyd “Buddy” Thomas and Scott Thomas (Jodi Thomas); Mother-in-law, Paulette Allison; nephews, Scott Thomas, Jr. (Victoria Thomas), Maxx Thomas (Michael Ann Thomas), and Liam Thomas as well as other nieces and nephews who will forever remember her warmth and the laughter they shared. Her familial bonds were strong and she treasured every moment.Sandy was a Laurel Highlands graduate, class of 1990. She then pursued an in-home daycare where she loved and cared for many children over those years. She then worked for the Boston Beanery for many years, where she cherished the friends and family she made along the way. She then went to pursue a career as a bank teller at United Bank and then First Federal Bank.Sandy was a woman of great kindness and generosity, and her home was a sanctuary filled with love and laughter. She was known for her welcoming spirit, always ready with a warm embrace and a listening ear. Her love for her family and friends was boundless, and her presence was a source of comfort and strength.Sandy's absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. As we celebrate her life, we remember her as a beacon of love and grace, whose memory will forever be cherished by all. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her light continue to guide us.Friends and family will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at the Gates Funeral Home and Crematory, 136 N. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, PA. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 21, at the Central Christian Church, 23 S. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, officiated by Rev. Heather Simpson. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery, and then a dinner at the Church.
